SETTING UP UPDD GESTURES
Using the multi touch mixer will trigger certain 3,4,5 finger gestures. Be sure any gestures assigned here will not interfere with the DAW. Or else, be sure to stagger touch of the multitouch faders if certain gestures are used that will hide or close the DAW.
Certain DAWs can have small UI elements that are hard for touch. To account for this, enable accesabilty for UPDD gestures in system preferences.
Open the UPDD Gestures app from App/Utilities and enable "Show Menu Bar Icon"
Click the Menu Bar icon and you will find the menu to Save and Load gestures settings.
Select Load Profile from File and Navigate to user/documents and load the Gestures profile for your DAW
Enable "Use Scroll Gestures with Modifier Keys to Zoom" in System Preferences Accessibility.
When selecting "Click nearest UI Element" this will help accuracy when touching certain items. However this setting can mess with the cursoring through menus after the click has happened..
Raven needs access to 1 and 2 finger presses and swipes to function correctly with the Navpad and special DAW gestures. When the Raven application is open a 2 finger swipe Up/Down/Left/Right will work in all applications. If Raven is closed then 2 finger swipe will be disabled.
It is easy to re-add this scrolling feature into a gesture so that scrolling will be possible when Raven is closed. For this, use a Three finger gesture and set it to trigger the Key Command Page Up/Page Down. Do to this, open the UPDD gestures app from the Utilities folder and enable Three finger swipes. Set the action for Three Finger Swipe Down to perform a Keystroke and then click the keystroke button and press Page Up. Do the same for Three Finger Swipe down and add the key command Page Down.
Now you can use Three Fingers Up/Down to scroll through pages even when Raven is closed and this will still work when Raven is open.
To take advantage of the Three Finger Left/Right options in UPDD, change its action to a Keystroke and then press keystoke and add key command CMND [ for Three finger Left and CMND ] for Three Finger Right. This will allow zooming in Pro Tools with a Three Finger Left/Right, and will also allow scrolling “Previous” and “Next” pages in Safari and Google Chrome.
NOTE: Touching 3 of Ravens Multi-Touch Faders at the exact same time will trigger these Key Commands unless you stagger the touch of each fader.
Using UPDD gestures with the Four Finger Scroll.
These Four Finger Swipes can be used to trigger key commands for any DAW such as, CMND E or CMND M for Pro Tools to Break and Mute a region. Enable Four Finger Swipes and set the action of Four Finger Down to trigger a Keystroke then Set Keystoke to CMND E. This will break a region in Pro Tools whenever a Four Finger Down Swipe happens. Set Four Finger Left Right Swipes to CMND CNTRL SHIFT LEFT/RIGHT to enable scrolling through Tabs when in Safari.
Using UPDD Gestures with Four Finger and Five Finger Pinch.
Four Finger Pinch can be great for navigating the DAW and other OSX apps. Enable Four Finger Pinch and Splay and set the action to trigger a Keystoke, the set the keystroke for Squeeze to CMND H. This will cause any window to hide when you squeeze your hand anywhere on the screen. To close the front window of any appliation change the Four Finger Splay action to Keystroke and add key comand CMND W. This will close any window when you splay out Four Fingers anywhere on the screen. Keep the pinky off the screen for Four Finger Pinch and add the Pinky when using Five Finger Pinch.
Five Finger Pinch can be used to trigger the Key Command for “Hide Floating Windows” in Pro Tools which is CMND CNTRL OPT W. Enable Five Finger Squeeze in the Gestures app and set Five Finger Squeeze and Splay to trigger a Keystroke, then set that keystoke to CMND OPT CNTRL W. This will allow any open plugin windows in Pro Tools to easily be closed by squeezing and splaying your hand anywhere on the screen.
You can also Save and Load these Gesture Profiles. Download the attached GPF file and then select "load from file."
